CNPC mulls purchase of Kazakh oil asset, construction of pipelinePublished: 09 Mar 2009 18:39:00 PST
Mar. 9, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China's largest integrated oil and gas company, is in talks with Kazakhstan to purchase an oil asset and plans to build a pipeline worth nearly RMB 10 billion to the Russian border, sources reported.
It is still a mystery whether the acquisition will be made by CNPC or its subsidiary, PetroChina<601857><857><PTR>.
Jiang Jiemin, the president of CNPC, said that this year PetroChina would start to build an oil pipeline with an annual capacity of 15 million tons from China's Daqing oilfield to the Russian border.
CNPC is busy acquiring assets overseas, taking advantage of low international oil prices, and has decided to spend HK$3.02 billion to buy Canada-listed Verenex Energy, Jiang added.
In addition, CNPC will sell to Hong Kong-headquartered CLP Holdings Ltd<2>, one of the largest investor-owned power businesses in Asia, 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 1 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) a year, according to the president.
